Early Years Music

I have practical experience in leading creative music sessions in a range of Early Years Music settings, including Greenwich Music School, Beanstalk Arts, Blackheath Conservatoire and Fulham Children’s Choir. In addition, I am the lead music tutor for Wandsworth Music’s SoundStart musicianship programme for children aged 5-7 (Key Stage 1).

My sessions include a combination of flute (silver flute/bansuri), ukulele, singing and movement, promoting learning through play and exploration. I play as part of a flute, cello and harp trio within Wigmore Hall’s ‘Chamber Tots’ programme, contributing improvised music  to interactive workshops, and sharing accessible performances to 0-5 year olds and their parents/carers from the venue’s main stage.

I have engaged in specialist training in Early Childhood Development & Pedagogy, and Musical Development Matters in the Early Years, with key specialists in the field, Nicola Burke and Claire Sutherland (Tri-Borough Music Hub). I have been offered a place on the London Early Years Music Network Apprenticeship Scheme 2020/21, giving me access to mentoring, workshops, networking and observation visits, to further develop my professional practice in Early Years Music. This has included exploring effective pedagogical approaches for online learning environments.
