Music in Healthcare

“VocalBeats” project
Royal Brompton & Harefield Arts

I am a trained BLF Singing for Lung Health practitioner and am currently on the team of cover musicians working with patients at specialist lung hospitals, Royal Brompton & Harefield, and Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital (flute, singing and ukulele).

In 2018, I was selected to take part in the Sound Connections/RB&H Arts ‘Music in Healthcare’ mentoring programme. This gave me the opportunity to shadow experienced practitioners facilitating creative music making with adult patients at Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals, and as part of the VocalBeats project for 0-25 year olds. You can find out more about my experience of the RB&H Arts Music in Healthcare programme here.

In addition, I have managed a range of Music in Healthcare projects in partnership with hospitals including Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, West Middlesex Hospital and UCH MacMillan Cancer Centre (Concordia Foundation), and Lewisham University Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich (Trinity Laban).

Please contact me here to discuss proposals for creative collaborations.

“Nicola is a true professional and quickly adapted to the often unpredictable needs of ward-based settings with ease and flexibility, sharing her music-practice in organic creative collaborations with fellow musicians. She has a kind and warm manner and is able to communicate with patients in a way that makes them feel welcome and heard. Nicola was always clearly aware of the space and acted mindfully whilst in hospital settings, ensuring patients felt comfortable and that workshop sessions were running smoothly.”
